Highlights
Vienna Landmarks
As a world heritage site, Vienna is rich in landmarks. An absolute must-see for visitors is St. Stephan’s Cathedral in the heart of the city. From its steeple you will enjoy a glorious view of Vienna and numerous other landmarks – e.g. Vienna’s Imperial Palace, once home to Empress Elisabeth, with its famous Spanish Court Riding School, training grounds for Lipizzaner horses.
Adjacent to the Imperial Palace you will find the Imperial Crypt and the Capuchin Crypt. To really see the 1st District and its landmarks you should take a carriage ride. A horse-drawn ride through Old Vienna – simply unforgettable!
Grouped around the Ring – the boulevard surrounding the 1st District and home to the Hotel Am Parkring – are numerous other tourist hot spots: the city park (Stadtpark), Art History Museum and Museum of Natural History, the Austrian Parliament, City Hall and the Albertina museum. Just hop on one of the trams encircling the Ring throughout the day (lines 1 or 2), and you’ll have the perfect sightseeing tour of Vienna. You simply must stop at the Vienna State Opera – across from the Sacher Hotel. The opera house is home of the annual Vienna Opera Ball, hands-down Vienna’s top social event.
Outside the gates of the 1st District, Schönbrunn Palace will take your breath away, while the Schönbrunn Zoo will inspire the whole family. You’ll walk along centuries-old parkways and will feel like royalty yourself!
Another wonderful experience for children is the Vienna Prater, an amusement park with the Ferris wheel as its landmark. The giant Ferris wheel is an experience for adults as well, as there exists simply no other, more beautiful view of Vienna.
